Objective: Students will learn how to gather information about their family history through interviews, journals and old photographs and present them in a creative way by coming up with a brochure and a family tree.

Step 1: Gather information from your parents, guardians, siblings, grandparents and other family members.
Step 2: Write your interview notes on 3×5 index cards (max: 5 cards) and submit these along with your brochure and family tree.

Guide Questions in making your Family History brochure

(adapted from the UCLA Center for Oral History Research –

• Give 1 important event that affected world affairs during your birth year and 1 national/local event from that year.
• Ask your interviewees how you were as a child. What was their most unforgettable memory of you when you were young (1-5 years old)?
• When and where were you born?
• Tell us about your parents or your family background.
• Where was your family originally from? (If and only if they are not from Cebu)
• How many children are in the family and what is your birth order?
• What do your parents do for a living?
• What other relatives did you have contact with growing up?
• What do you remember about your grandparents?
• What stories did you hear about earlier ancestors whom you never knew?
• Describe what your siblings are like (if you have any). Who were you closest to?
• Describe the house you grew up in. Describe your room.
• What is school like for you? What did you like about it? What was hard about it for you?
• Who are your friends at school? Who are your favorite teachers?
• What do you do in your spare time?
• Who are your friends and what do you do when you get together?
• Do you have any hobbies?
• Favorite stories? Favorite games or make-believe? Favorite toys?
• What do you want to be when you grew up?
